Network Marketing – A Tale of Two Frogs

I’m sure you’ve heard the story of the two frogs that are sitting on a lily pad.

No? Let me recount it for you:

There are two frogs (let’s call ‘em Joe and Spike) sitting on a lily pad. Spike jumps into the pond and starts to swim away to another, greener, fresher, more satisfying lily pad on the other side of the pond.

A few minutes later, Joe decides to jump in and go for a swim, too.

Question: How many frogs are sitting on the first lily pad?

Answer: Only Joe. He only DECIDED to jump. He didn’t actually do it.

So here’s my question to you: Which frog are you? Spike, the frog of decisive action, or Joe, the frog who is quite comfortable where he’s at.

Oh, I hear you thinking – but he DID make a decision, didn’t he? I mean Joe’s a good frog, works all day, comes home to his wife and tadpoles and puts in an appearance at “the local” every now and then. He’s sure to be moving up in this world. He’s destined for greener lily pads, right?

Um.. not so much.

Tony Robbins, that “personal power” guru says in his book “Awaken the Giant Within” that “it’s in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” It’s right there on page 40 if you don’t believe me.

But he’s only partially right.

Listen to how foolish I must sound! I’m contradicting one of the world’s foremost authorities on increasing your personal power, and becoming all you’ve ever wanted to be in life.

But he’s still only PARTIALLY right.

It’s not just your decisions. It’s the actions you take based on those decisions that shape your “destiny”.

You know, actions speak louder than words, right? And a picture is worth 1000 words, so if you visualize your destiny and then ACT on it, you’ll be louder, bolder and more audacious than any 1000 word decision you’ll ever make.

Yeah, I’m stretching a bit there, but you get the idea.

What decisions are you making? Are you trying to build your business? Grow your down line? Is this your year to explode your organization, boost your sales or take top honors at your national convention? Maybe you’d like to lose 100 pounds or something entirely different? How about just creating a happier home life?

All those decisions are well and good, and it’s great you’ve made a decision. But what are you DOING to activate those decisions?

When it comes to network marketing – or anything in life, deciding is the first step, but if it’s the only step, you’re dead in the water.

Just something to think about. Just don’t take all day thinking about it, because there’s a lot of action to take if you ever want to see those decisions come to fruition.

Oh, by the way, thinking IS an action. So is deciding, for that matter. But it’s the physical actions that happen AFTER those actions that truly shape your life.

Here’s a quick one-two punch for success:

Step 1: Make a decision

Step 2: Make a move – no matter how small – toward that decision’s ultimate reality

It’s not hard, but it takes effort. Just like leaping off that lily pad and swimming through the swamp takes time and energy, but do you think Spike’s got the better view for all his efforts?

You see if you’re selling a $100 item and it costs you $1 a piece for each lead that you generate, then you only need about a 1% rate to break even. Now even if this scenario is true, you should still be happy with the fact that you gained a customer, and you can now follow up on them with backend products.

You see the first sale is just a “teaser”. All of your real profits won’t come until you market to these people consistently. If you know that the average lifetime value of a customer is around $2000, then you can definitely afford to go negative. So even if it costs you $1 per lead that you get, and you get 100 leads, this is still good numbers because the average value of the customer you just received is so high that it justifies you spending lavishly to get a new lead and customer into the door.

This is marketing 101, but is something that a lot of business owners don’t focus on enough. Now turning these leads into customers requires a little bit of work, but it’s simple also. All you want to do is to mail (or even email) your prospects at least once a month until they buy. If you’ve contacted a lead for one whole year and they still haven’t bought from you, then stop paying to mail out your direct mail package to these people, and just continue to market to them via email marketing.

Now that you have a good idea of how the dynamics of any business is, it’s time to start implementing these strategies today.

I’ve worked with dozens of Realtors and I’ve found that most of them do not market themselves effectively. Which means they are leaving a big sack of money out on the street. This article will give you some key ideas you can use today to get all the clients you want.

In this economy you have to squeeze the market for all the clients you can get. Some of these ideas are dirt cheap and others will be a big investment.

Business Cards
Let’s start with a cheap way to get an extra 2 to 10 new clients per year. When you get business cards done always have them printed on both sides. The front should have a “big face” design, this is a close-up of your face. The reason you want it to be big is to get attention. The more unique the card the more calls you’ll get.

On the back print the benefits of using you for their real estate needs. The very best thing you can do is have 4 to 6 mini-testimonials from a few of your past clients.

“Jane Doe saved me over $40,000 on my new home.”
“Don Brown is the most honest Realtor in town.”
“Thanks Jim Smith for the going the extra mile.”

Do you get the idea? You can even write up your own testimonials and have your past clients OK them.

Local Internet Exposure
Think about local press releases you can send out. You can even send in press releases about anything of interest (just make sure your name is in there). There are dozens of local networking sites that allow you to write short articles and opinions, this helps to get your name and service out there.

Target Marketing
Every Realtor has a specialty, something you love doing. Your customer database will tell you what it is. Just look at your customer list and check for any patterns, jobs, location or even the kind of transaction you had.

I usually create a 4 page letter when marketing Realtors. Because choosing a Realtor is a very emotional decision. The client has to like and trust you, and the only way to get them to do that is with a long letter. This letter should make them feel comfortable with you. It should also give them reasons for trusting you with finding or selling their home.

Car Advertising
You should have at least one vehicle you own wrapped with your information on it.
Even it’s just a magnetic sign on each side of the car, that gives basic information about your service and a key benefit for calling. For example, “Ask me about the best area to buy your next home.” Or “Call me if you are thinking about buying a home is this area.”

Logo and Tagline
Get a logo, it should be designed around your name. And come up with a benefit centered tagline. The tagline should be short (no more than nine words), and have the main benefit you provide to your clients. For example “Over 20 years experience”, “I save my clients money”, “When it’s time to move is time to call Bob”.

These ideas will increase your overall business, only if you use them. So, pick one per month and get to work getting more work.
